
International Day of Yoga (Antarāstrīya Yog Divas), or commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015. An international day for yoga was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014, almost unanimously.
Yoga is a physical, mental, and or spiritual practice attributed mostly to India. The Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.
To mark the importance of Yoga, Indian Academy Degree College – Autonomous took an initiative to celebrate the yoga for Third year. The program commenced by introduction about the yoga and relevance of it by Prof. Mamatha followed by Lamp lighting ceremony by Dr. E Jerome Xavier Principal IADCA and Dr. M. Devendra, Head of the Dept of Tourism Studies and Program Coordinator for International Day of Yoga and other faculty members.
Dr. E Jerome Xavier addressed the gathering with relevance and practice of yoga as regular habit and to treat as a medicine in our day to day activity and imbibe the same.
The demonstration and practice of the activities related to Yoga Day was done by Dr. M. Devendra.
